Semester and Year Exchanges
Eastern Michigan University students may attend the University of Derby for one or two semesters for a cost equivalent to the costs at Eastern Michigan University. Students pay for EMU tuition and fees, plus a modest program and service fees. The courses taken at Derby appear on the EMU transcript as EMU courses. Students may select courses to count towards a major, minor, General Education or elective credit.
University of Derby
The University of Derby started as a Polytechnic and has since expanded and shifted its focus to become a university. It is a progressive university, one of the few Universities in the U.K. that offer both a "Combined Subject Programme" and an "Open Credit Scheme" program. Through the University of Derby Student Union you will find sports clubs and other societies, a health club, a student-run magazine and radio station and numerous entertainment opportunities to complement your academic life.
Derby: Derby, voted in a 2001 survey as the best city in which to live in England and Wales, is a lively commercial and industrial center. Derby's location in the middle of England is great for exploring the rest of the country. You can experience the natural beauty of England in the Peak District National Park, just 30 minutes away. London is one hour and forty minutes by train, and Edinburgh can be reached in four hours. Derby is known for the famous Royal Crown Derby Porcelain that is still produced there today. It is home to a number of museums, galleries, historical buildings, churches and entertainment and sports venues. Interestingly enough, Derby is also known as the ghost capital of England.
Residence Halls: International students at the University of Derby stay in the University Residences. These residential communities are self-catering and located between the main campus and the Derby City Centre. Grocery stores and an indoor mall can be easily reached on foot or by bus.
