EMU: APA Spring and Summer Programs Abroad

35 days of immersion in Western European art, history and culture in Western Europe: London, Paris, Rhine River Valley, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Munich. Courses are interdisciplinary, and experiential learning is integrated into the daily site visits. Earn six hours of college credit in the humanities and social sciences.

Earn six credits in International Business and Culture, while engaging in experiential learning. Business and Culture in Mexico is a six week program offered in collaboration with ITAM to undergraduate students as a unique chance to learn about Mexico's business environment and contributions to this new global economy. Instituto Technológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) is recognized as being one of the top five business schools in Mexico.

Live in beautiful Metz in eastern France, three hours from Paris, while earning six credit hours: three credits in International Business and three credits in French Language and Culture (FRNH 279). Classes alternate with visits to companies, governmental organizations and historical sites.

Study the social impact of technology at Pompeii, Herculaneum, and other National Historic Sites impacted by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. near Naples, Italy. Go back in time to explore the roots of Roman culture by visiting Greek, Arabic, and Roman sites in Sicily. This two-week interdisciplinary experience will examine the relationship between culture and technology evidenced in ancient transportation, industry, water and power, architecture, and various domestic technologies.

Earn three credits in PLSC/HLAD 391 (an additional 3 credits). Pre-requisite: PLSC/HLAD 390 (Poverty, Human Rights, and Health) taken as an on-campus course in Summer 2008 (3 credits). This field study program is the second part of a 2-course interdisciplinary sequence in Political Science and Health Administration.

The study abroad program consists of 8 full days in El Salvador, including home stays and visits to rural villages. Local arrangements are organized by the SHARE Foundation, a grassroots non-profit dedicated to promoting understanding of the root causes of poverty and community organizing to address underlying issues of social injustice.

Art in Paris
Study the art and culture of one of the world's most fascinating and beautiful cities. Stay in central Paris, near the city's heart. The program itinerary includes visits to the Louvre, Notre Dame, St. Denis, Pere Lachaise, and outside Paris to Versailles with program leaders Richard Rubenfeld and Tom Venner. Paris, one of the oldest cities in western Europe, is considered to be the art capital of the world. Coursework in Studio Art and Art History is offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
