Semester and Year Exchanges

Eastern Michigan University students may attend Tokyo Gakugei University for one or two semesters. Students pay for EMU tuition and fees, plus modest program and service fees. The courses taken at Kansai Gaidai appear on the EMU transcript as EMU courses. Students may select courses to count towards a major, minor or General Education requirements.

Program:

Spend a semester or a year at Tokyo Gakugei University in Koganei City, Japan. Koganei City is located about 30 minutes by train west of Tokyo, which is convenient for day trips into Tokyo. The Asian Studies Program at Tokyo Gakugei offers a wide range of courses, including Japanese language, as well as electives (taught in English) in Japanese culture, history, psychology, music, art, sports and education.

 


Costs associated with the program:

• $200 Post-Acceptance Deposit
• EMU tuition and fees for 15 credit hours
(undergraduate) or 9-12 credit hours (graduate)
• Meals, approx. 40,000 yen per month
• Room fee, approx. 15,000 yen per month
• $300 EMU Exchange Program Fee
• Books and personal expenses
• Round-trip international airfare

Gakugei campus

Accommodations: Students live in a Residence Hall (shared rooms) and cook their own meals. Each dormitory accommodates 110-160 students and has common rooms and facilities for academic, recreational and cultural activities. All rooms are furnished and have air-conditioning so that students do not have to worry about buying or bringing any big items. Dorm administrators maintain the building and assist students’ daily life. Furthermore, a master’s course student (Tutor) lives on each floor as a resident assistant, who can help to deal with any problems that residents might have.

Application deadlines:

February 15 for fall term and academic year
(No winter term admission). Minimum requirement of 3.0 g.p.a. and sophomore standing for application.
