Alumni Scholarship Guidelines
The Eastern Michigan University Alumni Association Scholarship was established in 1970 to encourage children and grandchildren of alumni to continue the EMU legacy. Students who will be enrolled as entering freshmen, sophomores and transfer students at Eastern Michigan University in the fall semester may apply. Demonstration of financial need is not required. The award granted per recipient is $1,250 per academic year and may be renewed for four consecutive years for a maximum award of $5,000 if the renewal criteria outlined below are met.
Minimum Criteria
Applicants must be admitted to the University. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or better is required. All applicants must submit a fully completed Alumni Association Scholarship Application form, a written recommendation, an official copy of their high school transcript (including SAT/ACT scores and a cumulative average), and an essay of 250 words or less stating why they feel uniquely qualified for this award. Applicants must be sponsored by a relative who is an Eastern Michigan University alumna/alumnus. Candidates also may be requested to attend an interview with the Scholarship Committee.
Award Conditions
Recipients must enroll as full-time students (minimum of 12 credit hours both fall and winter semesters). Recipients must volunteer once each semester in the Alumni Relations Office or at an Alumni event. The scholarship award will be renewed automatically for four consecutive years provided the recipient maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better and is enrolled as a full-time student as described above.
