Information for International Students
Eastern Michigan University offers
scholarships to assist students with their tuition and fees.
Please review our scholarship opportunities to see if you qualify.
Due to federal regulations, the types of financial aid available
to international students are extremely limited. If your visa
status is F-1, F-2, J-1, J-2 or G, you are not eligible to receive
federal student aid. You may, however, qualify for an alternative
loan.
If you are a non-U.S. citizen, you may qualify for federal student
financial aid programs if you are one of the following: a
permanent United States resident with an Alien Registration
Receipt Card (I-151, I-551, or I-551C), a United States national
(includes natives of American Samoa or Swains Island),
or an eligible noncitizen with an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94)
from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service
showing one or more of the following designations:
a. "Refugee"
b. "Asylum Granted"
c. "Indefinite Parole" and/or "Humanitarian Parole"
d. "Cuban-Haitian Entrant"
NOTE: If you have only
a Notice of Approval to Apply for Permanent Residence
(I-171 or I-464), you are not eligible for federal student aid.
If you are a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia,
the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Republic of Palau,
you are eligible only for Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental
Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOGs), or Federal Work Study.
