Conference
committee recommends 1% increase for
higher education
Responding to continuing state budget
pressures, a conference committee
has recommended a reduction in state
appropriations to higher education
from 3 percent to 1 percent for fiscal
year '09. This means EMU expects
to receive an increase over last
year of approximately $750,000, rather
than the $2 million originally proposed. More

Dykema Gossett
holds campus retreat
EMU's Lansing-based multi-client lobby
firm, Dykema Gossett, was on campus
Monday, April 7 for a legislative
planning retreat. The Strategic
Operations Council, as well as each
academic college, was invited to meet
with Dykema's lobby team and the EMU
Government Relations staff to discuss
legislative issues. The Dykema team
capped off their day on the EMU campus
with a public forum to share with the
University community what it is they
do on behalf of EMU and invite feedback
on what issues should receive more
emphasis.

EMU Caucus members are typically
