Welcome to Clinical Lab Science

The CLS Program at Eastern Michigan University provides an excellent background for students who are considering careers in medical technology as well as the medical sciences and biotechnology. Our broad-based curriculum includes classes in Biology, Chemistry, and CLS courses in Hematology, Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, Immunology, and Clinical Chemistry. These courses will provide you with preparation for employment in a variety of settings including medical laboratories and biotechnology industries. The program also provides excellent preparation for those planning to attend professional schools in medicine, veterinary medicine and physician's assistants.

The CLS program at EMU offers 4 concentrations, each leading to a bachelor of science degree:

• Medical Technology is the study of blood and body fluids and includes analysis in the following areas: hematology, blood bank, chemistry, immunology, microbiology and molecular diagnostics.
• Cytogenetics is the study of the relationship between human disease, heredity, and chromosome alterations.
• Histotechnology is the study of very thin sections of body tissues prepared with a variety of dyes and examined by light and electron microscopy.
• Pre-Professional concentration is an option for students preparing for careers in medicine, dentistry, podiatry, chiropractic, and veterinary science.
