BSN Regular Admission
Information Sessions for BSN Traditional/Regular Admissions and students seeking a BSN as a 2nd Degree.
Information Sessions will be held on the following days:
- Thursday, November 20th, 5-6 PM Halle Library Room 202
- Wednesday, December 10th, 5-6 PM Halle Library Room 300
To be considered for admission to the School of Nursing, applicants must have completed 8 prerequisite courses listed below. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 8 prerequisite courses is required to be considered for admission. In order to have a complete application, each prerequisite course must be completed by May 15th with a grade of C or better. Admission to the BSN program is also contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background check. Complete the ATI-TEAS examination. Points will be given for achieving these total BSN adjusted individualized scores: Reading, 80% or better, Math, 50% or better, English, 75% or better, Science, 50% or better. (The School of Nursing will administer this examination. Students will have to make arrangements for payment and appointment to take the examination through the nursing office after the winter term begins each year. Applicants can retake this examination one time to achieve the 50th percentile rank.)
ATI-TEAS Examination Schedule
The ATI-TEAS examination will be given on the dates/times/locations listed below. Registration is limited to 40 persons per session. Cost of the ATI-TEAS examination is $20.00. Individuals may contact ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute) at www.atitesting.com or call toll free at 1-800-667-7531 for review materials. Log on to the ATI website to create a new user account before the scheduled test date. On the day of the test bring a picture ID and a MasterCard or Visa credit card or a MasterCard or VISA debit card to pay the fee. No other form of payment will be accepted by ATI.
Individuals planning to apply to the EMU School of Nursing will need to complete the ATI-TEAS examination. Applicants may retake the exam only once. The fee for a retake exam is also $20.00.

Applicants must first be admitted to Eastern Michigan University and obtain an EMU student number. The admission process includes submission of all transcripts of colleges and universities attended by the applicant. After being admitted to EMU, a separate application must be submitted to the School of Nursing.
For English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) applicants, proof of English proficiency must accompany the application. A TOEFL score of 500 or higher (or equivalent). Evidence of proficiency in speaking and writing may also be required.

RN/BSN Completion Admission
MSN Program Admission
Applicants must apply to the Graduate School and be admitted before application to the School of Nursing. Select NUR/MSN-HH on the application form. A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required for Graduate School admission.
 Admission requirements for the MSN program include the following:
- An unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Michigan or eligibility to obtain a license.
- BSN degree from an accredited nursing program or RN licensure with another bachelor’s degree.
- At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Applicants may seek conditional admission with a GPA of 2.5.
- Applicants who have English as a second language must score 550 or greater on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 80 on the Michigan English Language Ability Battery (MELAB).
- Submission of a writing sample (4-5 pages) that could be a published article, term paper, work-related product, or a new composition.
- Three references that document professional competence in nursing practice.
- A 2 to 3 page narrative statement of personal goals for graduate study.
- Successful completion of an approved basic statistics course that includes descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Successful completion of a basic health assessment course.
